Where to avoid in Berlin at night? A realistic perspective before going out Here are the important tips when thinking where to avoid in Berlin at night. So, first of all, let’s say this clearly: Berlin is not a dangerous city, it’s not a jungle, as some people paint it. The key is not to avoid half of the city either. The key is actually to be aware, just don’t go absolutely careless in some specific points at some specific hours, and then you’ll have the best and safest night in the capital. Busy hotspots like… It’s true, there are some places like the Alexanderplatz, for example, where even police advise you to be careful. There’s a lot of people, tourism groups, constant movement, big energy, and that gives the lead to pickpocketers or even people taking your things and running away. That’s the most violence you’ll see. It’s a classic among the places to experience nightlife in Berlin. It’s also a sensible zone. And the police advise you to be careful there, especially in the evening. It’s always better to go in groups and not be showing your stuff or your purse. Parks and dark areas: where to avoid in Berlin at night? Goerlitzer Park, at night, is a place to avoid. It’s not just a rumor, they even closed the park at 10 in the night, they ask people to leave. So that shows that tension. Talking about parks, avoid using them as shortcuts at night. Or canals, anything that rings a bell to a horror movie scenario place. These are the types of environments that change completely after dark, and even if Berlin is safe, these are simply not the smartest choices when coming back home at 4 am. Nightlife zones near parks: stay aware, not scared Neuköln is a great place to go with friends to have some drinks, but you should be mindful about where you are. It’s true they have great bars, but it’s also close to big parks, so it is a place where you’ll see a lot of police, and for a reason. The crime statistics are not big, but still, you should be careful. This is a perfect example of answering “where to avoid in Berlin at night?” is not always about skipping a place, but about understanding the surroundings. Late-night crossings and party overflow areas in Berlin Warschauer Brücke, you shouldn’t avoid it at all costs, but just don’t cross it at 4 in the AM. There’s a lot of parties around it, but the police are also close by. There’s a lot of people and sometimes it gets out of control, but if you’re careful, you won’t have any problem. Hermannplatz and Donaukiez, they are areas that have a lot in common, a big nightlife and a mix of the real Berlin, but they officially are considered as a high crime statistic area for Berlin standrards. So that means to be more street smart than to pose. Specific streets to be cautious: Neukölln and beyond Hermannstrasse and the Bahnhof in Neukölln are dangerous places, not really dangerous, but a little bit when walking by at midnight. If you can, try to avoid this place. Rigas is not that place to go and see what’s up. Just go there if you have a big reason for it. These are not necessarily “no-go zones,” but they are not ideal for random exploration late at night. Public transport and moving safely at night in Berlin Regarding public transport at night, it’s really safe, but be also mindful about your things, have your backpack closed, your cell phone in your front pocket, no exhibition. The same rules as in any big city in the world. The public transport at night is super effective, and you can also find help columns where you can contact personnel in almost every station and also in the wagons. If you want to take a taxi, ask one through an app because it’s safer than just taking one in the street. Where to avoid in Berlin at night? Don’t confuse party areas with unsafe zones The best advice would be not to mix up the party neighborhood with a neighborhood to avoid. For example, Friedrichstein, Kreuzberg, Neukölln, they are party districts, amazing places to go out, but they also have a little bit of statistics. So the right thing to do is not to avoid going there, but being careful about your things as in any place in the world. Final advice on where to avoid in Berlin at night during a pubcrawl And yeah, if you go out, feel completely safe, it’s Europe and it’s Germany, but be ready, be mindful, have your route clear in your head, and don’t answer to random people talking to you in the street at 4 a.m. The same thing as in any place in the world. And enjoy Berlin.

Is Berlin Mitte safe at night? A realistic overview for pub crawling Wondering about is Berlin Mitte safe at night? The first question that pops in any first time visitor. Quick answer: yes, but. It is actually a safe place, just don’t activate your naive mode on. It’s a very centric touristy place with a lot of movement. You won’t find a drama scene, but a clueless action that turned into something stolen. The classic are the pickpocketers, not the ones from a movie scene. Just a surprising scene of not finding your purse, cell phone, wallet or laptop in your backpack if you get really distracted. THE hotspot of Berlin Alexanderplatz deserves a little bit of attention. So it has a problematic history, and you should keep an eye, or two eyes open. It is an epicenter of history and culture in Germany, but it also has a lot of police vigilance. These days you won’t find any drama there. Hackescher Markt and Rosenborger Straße, they also have a bad reputation, but they actually have a great vibe. They are zones with amazing bars, restaurants, and nightlife right in the center. They usually are active and people stay there late, so that has changed in the last few years. Feel completely safe, though. Is Berlin Mitte safe at night when bar hopping? The smart rule is that you kind of always choose the lighted streets with people and not the empty alleys in the night. That’s an official recommendation from the government. It’s not a particularly dangerous thing from Berlin, it happens in every big city in the world. It’s a recommendation of precaution, not of danger. The same goes for inside the venues: keep an eye on your drink and don’t let someone put anything inside it. You don’t hear almost at all about this kind of danger, but it has happened and you should be mindful about it as in any big city. Safe transport The urban transport helps a lot. The U-Bahn and the buses that start with letter N make it pretty easy to go back home no matter where you live. Something that happens sometimes is that people fall asleep after a night of drinking, and people take advantage of that and steal things, so keep your eyes open. The BVG has a video surveillance, emergency columns, and a lot of security presence on the net, so feel safe in any transport you take in Berlin. Is Berlin Mitte safe at night regarding theft and precautions? We recommend you not to take cash, just your cell phone and have everything there and under a strong password. If you are wearing a purse or a backpack in some places where there are a lot of people, we recommend you to put it in the front and don’t be on tourist mode on. If you get a cab, choose the ones with the apps and not anyone in the street. Achtung and awareness in Mitte, Berlin If you are too drunk, don’t go back alone, you can get in trouble. Nobody knows who’s in charge, so come back with your friends. Be German about it, have a plan to come back where you’re going to get back home and which apps will help you to get ur public transport id or to ask for a cab. At the end of the night… It definitely isn’t a zone to go with your paranoids. It’s to go out and have a nice time. Just don’t leave your things unattended and have an eye on them. And most of all, enjoy Mitte, enjoy Berlin.

Is Mitte a good area in Berlin for tourists? More than once a day we get this question: is Mitte a good area in Berlin for tourists? And the answer is an easy yes, but the many reasons are not exactly what you would expect. Mitte has the top places everyone travelling to Germany should check out. It is a historical center and also one of the nightlife icons. So a very touristy part of town, yes, but it attracts so many people for a reason. You have to spend just one day strolling around its amazing streets and the answer will be more than clear. You’ll see the plazas, monuments, cafes, patios, museums, everything in one day without using public transport, just get an amazing picture of the city without leaving one area. Why Mitte? If you have just a few days in the city or just one day, this is the place to see. This is the postcard picture of Berlin should look like. Beautiful small corners, historical museums, architecture from last century and from last week. When the sun goes down, the other side od Mitte comes to life: art, night entertainment and galleries. Definitive not just a checklist of taking some pictures there. Cultural highlights that answer: is Mitte a good area in Berlin for tourists? The Museum Island packs like no other city in the world a massive amount of museums. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage, and it reunites four museums, top museums in one place, so it’s definitely a thing to see. The Neues Museum (New Museum), the Alte Nationalgalerie (Old National Gallery), the Bode Museum (then the Kaiser-Friedrich-Museum) and the Pergamon Museum, designed to house the monumental Ishtar Gate of Babylon. If you like history, you’ll have the best day of your life. You’ll hear from Prussia, The divided city of Berlin and ultimately the modern capital, you’ll see history come to life when you get out of the museums. Is Mitte a good area in Berlin for tourists interested in nightlife? Hackescher Markt is an example of one place with two natures. During the day you can find expensive galleries here, expensive ones, and at night you can spend some quality time with friends having beer in terraces. Oranienburger Straße, it’s still and has always been a key place to visit. If you are planning on bar hopping, this is the place to do it or to book a pub crawl. The social vibe: going out in Mitte It’s not the most undergroundish Berlin, but it’s the first layer you have to cover of the city. Definitely, you can have a nice dinner, then hit an iconic bar, take a walk and hit some clubs without any complications. It’s ideal to go in a group for brunch or hit the rooftops for some cocktails. But the best side is clubbing. Locals, they choose it. Getting around Mitte: transport, safety and convenience for tourists Alexanderplatz is part of Mitte and the most iconic place. You’ll meet the beating heart of the city and also feel safe because there’s a lot of policemen. And if you plan to cover it in many days, you can also take public transport to get in and out from one place to the other. The transportation works here amazingly, just as you would expect from the German capital. Walkability and accessibility in Mitte for short stays This neighborhood has a walkable size. You can do everything in one long day (plazas, monuments, cafes, patios, museums), but the most recommendable is to take at least two days. Each museum itself deserves a whole day of attention. Downsides? For some people, it might feel too touristy. But for very few. Normally you can experience it as a local secret, more than a massive tourist place. The weakest point of Mitte is that it’s not a cheap zone. It’s actually the most expensive you’ll see in Germany probably. But other than that, it’s a must-see place, definitely. So, bottom line: Yes, a big yes. Mitte is the heart of the game. It’s very touristy, but also attracts so many people, year after year, for a reason. If you are planning on bar hopping, this is the place to do it or to book a pub crawl. No matter if you come alone or in a group, if you’re into art or into history, Mitte is day one for anyone visiting Berlin.

Is nightlife good in Berlin? When someone asks you is nightlife good in Berlin, the short answer is yes. It’s ,hands down, the capital of techno in a worldwide level (like the Vatican of the techno). Some clubs, such as Berghain, Tresor, or Cater Blau, they have been icons of the industry (worldwide level) since decades ago. So yeah, right now it’s a global trending thing as it has always been. They managed to bring the techno genre to the climax of the art level. It’s actual culture. People are proud of it. Why Berlin nightlife stands out Since the Love Parade, you could see Berlin was a special place. That spirit is part of the city and it’s linked to the fall of the Berlin Wall. That’s where the spirit of celebration comes from. The idea is that people go there and forget about everything, even about their cell phones. That last part is an actual rule. You can’t take pictures inside the big places in Berlin. Who is already in the party? Anyone can come here: artists, students, queer community, ravers, young ravers, old ravers, the Viking raver, everyone is invited, and you can see tourists from Australia, Brazil, Middle East, from every part of the globe. Is nightlife good in Berlin for long parties and pubcrawling? Parties, they last. You can easily end up 24 hours nonstop in a party. Many clubs start on Saturday night and they don’t stop until Monday before work, so you can try that marathon if you have a body that can stand it. They have definitely no rush to close the doors, and that’s something unique. It’s different from Munich, Budapest, Paris, almost any city in the world has this policy of never-ending party. Berlin nightlife venues: industrial spaces and iconic clubs And the places inside, they are gigantic. They are actually old factories or electrical, electric centrals, big industrial buildings. And, for example, the crown of the jewel place called Berghain, occupies many, many aisles and rooms and different ambiences, so we completely recommend for you to try it once at least in your life. Is nightlife good in Berlin? The famous door policy explained The door policy is something also very Berlin is… The people at the door choose who comes in and who has not the vibe to get in. Sometimes it’s more difficult to get to these places than to get a cheap flight. So here, all the local advice for it, go with friends, go really well dressed, and give your best look to the bouncers. If you get inside, the music you’ll experience is out of this world. It’s zero posts. It’s something that you might have never heard. and the music system is even more unique. Not just techno Not everything is techno. You can find many genres and many, many rooms. That’s why the places are so big, so there’s something for everyone. Every weekend you can find international DJs here and also on the underground venues. Best areas and timing And there’s also themed neighborhoods like Friedrichshain, Kreuzberg and Neukölln. They have all the places you should visit if you happen to stay a week in the city. The party starts late, around 11. You can find the club empty. And it hits the sweet spot around 3 a.m., so have that in mind. If you go early, it’s easier to enter, but the ambience won’t be high up until 2. Final answer: Is nightlife in Berlin really that good? So yeah, the night in Berlin is not just good, it’s actually legendary.

Nightlife in Berlin for Tourists: A 101 Tutorial to Party in the City So this is the 101 tutorial of nightlife in Berlin for tourists. First thing you have to know: this is not a “I’ll put in the calendar the name of the club and I’ll go there that night and party and have fun”. No, partying here is the exception to German programmation. Berlin is about experiencing very different things in one night.ç Underground bars and high-tech, sophisticated drink clubs, Berghain included, “afters” as hardcore as Ibiza parties… And that’s just one night. Berlin has this reputation of being the capital of the worldwide capital of techno and electronic music. and it’s true, but how it manages to keep its crown is a great story. Marathon mode on So you’re in Berlin for just a few days, there’s many things you have to take in consideration because this city is a hardcore party town. In Berlin, the first extraordinary thing is that you don’t go out, you just book for a marathon of parties. You can measure a party not in hours, but in days. And there are actually clubs that open nonstop from Thursday night till Monday in the morning. You can keep on going until your body says stop. Music Variety in Berlin’s Nightlife Scene for Visitors And another thing that is usually unexpected is that in Berlin there’s not just techno. It is true that techno rules, but there are a lot of other genres even inside the same venue. You can find hip hop, international hips, German hits, even live music, indie, anything alternative, punk, pop, rock, reggaeton, Latin nights… Everything can be found in Berlin in different places, but also in the same venue. The atmosphere of traditional Kneipe bars in Berlin But back to these Kneipes, these are places with low light, very dark wood, mirrors on the wall and small windows. And the bar has a lot of character, everyone has little talks with the bartenders, which usually are old people that have been there their whole life. Kneipes have this strong personality where everything feels natural and honest. There you can also go there during the day to have a quick beer and read something or, or to get in touch with friends after work. It is for every occasion. Door Policy Tips for Nightlife in Berlin for Tourists Something every tourist should know is about the door policy. It is a myth and it is true. There are long lines and strict filters to choose who gets in and who doesn’t. So have in mind a plan B and don’t make a drama about it. The rules are not easy to explain, mainly what the people at the door are looking for are just original party people that want to have a nice time and have a good attitude. What to Wear Another thing to have in mind is what to wear. More than an expensive outfit, a nice attitude, very respectful and relaxed air is what the bouncers looks for. This will probably get you inside and also provide you the best experience possible during the party. Best Areas to Explore Nightlife in Berlin for Tourists Let’s talk a little bit about the neighborhood for partying in Berlin. There are many, it is like many cities in one. Friedrichshain is the first name that comes to mind. Kreuzberg, you’ll find out where this cosmopolitan multicultural hub is and a Neuköln are the heavyweights of partying, so note all those names down, and if you have more than one night in Berlin, we recommend you to try all of them. In summer, you can even find clubs that are open air, and also nice biergartens. Spätis and After-Parties: A Unique Side of Nightlife in Berlin for Tourists Something that is peculiar about the German party culture is to go after the party to a spätti, which are part of the ritual. They are stores that are open 24-7, meeting points for improv, chat, and it’s kind of the talking rooms of the actual clubs, and it’s pure DNA of the Berliners “kies”’s. Transport and Safety for Enjoying Berlin Nightlife as a Tourist Let’s rehearse some of the tips to move around without hassles in Berlin. Berlin is super safe, you can walk all over wherever you want, but if you live far away, you can take the S-Bahn, the U-Bahn, the tram, the bus, even ferries all day, all night, any day of the week, even on weekends. So don’t worry about that, you’ll find a way to get home, just ask Google, but plan a little bit before hitting the party. And if you’re planning on coming back with an Uber or with any other app transport, that’s a great option, although it is pretty safe to go on public transport.
So this is the 101 tutorial of nightlife in Berlin for tourists. First thing you have to know: this is not a “I’ll put in the calendar the name of the club and I’ll go there that night and party and have fun”. No, partying here is the exception to German programmation. Berlin is about experiencing very different things in one night.ç

Underground bars and high-tech, sophisticated drink clubs, Berghain included, “afters” as hardcore as Ibiza parties… And that’s just one night. Berlin has this reputation of being the capital of the worldwide capital of techno and electronic music. and it’s true, but how it manages to keep its crown is a great story.

Big Clubs in Berlin Lots of people travelling to Germany get that great recommendation of visiting the old bars in Berlin. But what are they? Are they bars, pubs or taverns? Yes, but the German version. These are places where the tradition is super alive. This places have actually survived the war, the empire, the German division of the city, and nowadays the gentrification. So that’s why these places are loaded with local heritage. They have been like this 200 years ago and they will be like this 200 years (fingers crossed). Historic Berlin bars and the soul of everyday life So, when you go to a Kneipe, like for example, Klärchen’s Ballhaus, there is a nostalgic air, but it is not a museum, like it’s part of everyday life. The bartenders are always talking, the attendants are always familiar faces. You can join them, but be respectful. It is not a place just to look at, you are there to say something interesting. Kneipes have this cinematic air: old dark wood, polished furniture, a jukebox that still works… But the decor is not for showing up, it is just the way people find it to their taste. Some guests are every day clients. They go after retirement or after work and it’s part of the myth of the kneipes. Without them, the bar just loses its soul. Famous old bars in Berlin and traditional beer gardens One of the very famous is called Prater, and it has been open since 1837. It is also considered the oldest beer garden in Berlin. You can go then in summer, you can drink beer under the castanias, and have a very relaxed afternoon. That’s something very Berlinish. Even if you go to Prater in winter, you will also get the oktoberfest experience. It’s a beer garden with a cultural program. Bohemian and bourgeois contrasts in Berlin’s historic pubs They are also attached to the bohemian artistic spirit. For example, Dickey Vertin is one of these very artistic magnets and it has always been for actors, authors, students in Charlottenburg. Other names that you should write now is Móeve. Since its origin, a it has been a very low profile, small and honest Kneipe. An amazing place to visit. If you go to the east, you will have a more bourgeois kind of kenipes, and if you go to the west, you will get the bohemian side with more on the informal Berlin facade. Food, beer and culture in old Berlin bars There you can also have a real Sempf (mustard) with amazing Wurst. That’s the classical combo with beer. You can also ask knöchel or some other of the german culinary jewels. These places are not only about drinking, they are about culture, routine, eating and identity. It is a space where everything connects naturally, from the food to the people. A must in Berlin So yeah, there’s a lot of, a lot of movement. Yes, but the German version. These are places where the tradition is super alive. This places have actually survived the war, the empire, the German division of the city, and nowadays the gentrification. So that’s why these places are loaded with local heritage.

Big Clubs in Berlin So let’s talk about those (really) big clubs in Berlin. The list for this city is infinite and some of the names are known worldwide, even in China or in Africa or in the States… You must have heard Berghain! So let’s go for it. Berlin doesn’t just party like in other cities, the party in Berlin has a cultural place in socirty. That’s something unique and you could see it in the Love Parade worldwide and you can see it in all of the big clubs. Size and Sound First of all, let’s define what a big club means. It is a synonym of many, many floors, outdoor/indoor zones, sessions that go on and on and on that can go from Friday till Monday. Rhythms that change your your soul from one room to the other. Something unique in this town is that you can take all weekend to party. You can actually start a late Saturday party and keep on going the whole day, the whole Sunday inside and then leave on Monday. It’s an actual marathon. Big Clubs in Berlin and the Power of Sound Systems Not just the DJs and the genres are famous and homemade thing, but the audio system is something out of this world. Germans are very proud of the blasting but precise sound systems. Something that is also unique and different from all the other places in Europe is this the industrial heritage venues. They happen in actual old factories or electrical centrals or warehouses. The architecture is not just a thematic, it is a connection to the past and the future. It is actual brutalism and it’s not a theme. Door Policies is part of the big clubs in Berlin cutlure Something that’s a myth of the big clubs are the door policies, but it’s actually true. There are long lines and they are careful with letting some people in and some people out. Just have in mind that your attitude here gets you in, it’s not just your clothes. You will find inside not just the usual party people. This is the place of actual expression. So local artists mix with travelers and tourists from all parts of the world. That’s the crowd one night after the other. The Sex-Positive Scene You might have heard of the sex-positive thing, and it’s true. You can find it in some places like KitKat or even in the lab in Berghein, but yeah, it is all true. You can distinguish attendants that fancy this liberality for the creative dress code. They will behave in a very liberal and hedonistic way and you’re invited to join them. No pictures or video is obviously allowed at these venues. So these places are something completely worth checking out. The After Party Culture The after in Berlin is not just an extra, it’s a part of the night out. So you should also go for a party in between and have some snacks and then keep on partying if your body can handle it, that’s it, of course. Ever-Changing Reputation Berlin, there’s a thing of how a place can speak and it’s because people start talking about it and it’s not a marketing thing, it’s a reputation and a crafted curated experience inside. It is not a merchandising campaign, it is just created out of quality. And yeah, that’s why each year there’s a new club which is the best in town for that year. A big name that’s 100% worth mentioning is Berghain, which is the worldwide industrial venue turned into a techno temple. It is very hard to get in, but it’s completely worth it and it’s something you can tell many years after that. Exploring Big Clubs in Berlin Beyond the Venue And some of these places are not just isolated, they are part of great zones of party, so you can take, for example, Meanders and the canal or the river zone after the party or get a breakfast in a nice place and also go to a bar before the venue. So yeah, choose a name, try it, and you’ll see what the German hype is all about.

Drinking Areas in Berlin Wondering about the drinking areas in Berlin? We’ve all been there. There are some german difficult names you’ll have to copy paste to your uber app. The first and most important is definitely. We’ll talk about its nice side of chaos and its history, but be prepared for way more names. There is way more than just this area; let’s find out your new favorite part of town! Chaos and Culture in Kreuzberg It’s a mythical experience to drink in Kreuzberg. Here you can find the modern bars, nightclubs, spätis, clubs, BIG clubs, everything mixed around with this rebellious attitude and a lot of that unique “street” Berlinish air. Oranienstraße is what you should copy/paste to your uber app. Arrive there, get a beer on a terrace or if you ‘re there in winter go straight for a tequila at a bar. When engines are ready, hit one of its many places that shine on any map of Berlin. SO36, or Coty are two very different places, but a complete experience of the Berlin nightlife if mixed. Cotbuster (coty) is such a local jewel that you might even find it hard to speak in english with other attendants. Hands down, a great recommendation for a party that has no label, and the same goes for SO36. Friedrichshain: the other drinking area in Berlin Friedrichshain is hitting-a-lot-of-bars-in-one-night. You can start on a terrace or in a bar and then hit the clubs like it’s your birthday. Simon-dach-strasse is also great for groups. You might find a pub crawl there (and we totally recommend you to join one). The ambience is international and there’s no need for choosing the best place, they’ll do it for you. Neukölln Neukölln, The Cologne essence in the capital. Berlin’s undergroundish side: small bars with a more creative mix and a lot less touristy than in other top zones. Karl Marx Strasse and the air over all this district transports you to a vintage time, stylish, eclectic, as original as you want to be. You can spend the day close to the water and then go to a terrace in the afternoon before ending up in a bombastic club, dancing all night long. Central Berlin If you want just one name, that would be to go Mite. This is the most centric, the most accessible, and if you have a short time in town, go there. It’s great for people that want to take a drink in the in zones that are more alive without getting in a hardcore alternative chaos. It is not the cheapest part of town, naturally, but you’ll get the most iconic instagram stories. Eclectic Drinking Culture in Berlin Every local can tell you Berlin is not just hardcore techno. There are these older bars called Kneipes, very old school, war survivors hidden jewels of everyday life. It’s the idea of getting into a bar where everybody knows the other. The bartenders have been there for a long time and are friendly to tourists. Totally part of the nightlife (and daylife) of Berlin. Canal and Spätis are the areas for drinking in Berlin If you get close to Spree or the canal, the beach bars there, especially in the summer, are a great alternative. And after the party, you might hear the word Späti, which means something to do later. They are places that open 24-7, and turn out to be a meeting points after the party. You can use them as a tactical stops to eat something or to buy some snacks, but also as the smoking area of the clubs. Pub Crawling, Berlin style Pub crawling in this city works amazingly. All the places are very close to one another in the center, and so if you don’t want to choose by yourself the best places, choose someone that knows them. Different Pub crawl for different neighbourhoods Something to take in consideration is that the neighborhoods are really different in the center. Kreuzberg, Friedrichshain, and Neukölln are the biggest names, and they are very different from one another. Kreuzberg is rebel, Friedrichshain is a party-heavy place, and Neukölln is more bohemian, do-it-yourself. And if you have any doubt, go to Mitte. Respecting the Culture of Drinking Areas in Berlin So with all this information, the last thing to say is that you shouldn’t romanticize the city, and you should respect the neighborhoods, the neighbors, and the norms, because in Germany that’s part of the harmony, as it should be in any place. So don’t be that noisy in the public space at 4 a.m. That being said, there are a few rules, so the most important is to have a great time in town.

Bar Areas in Berlin In such a big city, knowing the bar areas in Berlin is a must. First thing you should know is that here they don’t call it bars or pubs. The German translation for bar is Kneipe and we’ll find out where to find them. A quick tip that will show you the real Berlin is that this city doesn’t go for big areas, or zones, everything changes from one Kiez to the other. Kiezes are like a neighborhood within the neighborhood. Each with its own identity, two worlds if you compare one to the neighbor kiez. It’s like a tribal thing, with its own rhythm and code. So, if you visit one in one night and other the next night, then you will get two absolutely different experiences. Now that we have the definitions, let’s roll. Exploring Bar Areas in Berlin Oranienstraße is where you should take your uber to. It’s no wonder that when someone asks you what you did in Berlin, people usually start with “that time in Oranienstraße”. It’s the core of Kreuzberg and it’s the nicest place within the chaos. Wrangelkiez is another critical epicenter of bar culture. It has the river energy, but less hipster. The “kneipes” here have their own attitude. And in the night, after the clubs, you can go to a classical späti: a meeting point of party people who want a last stop before hitting home. Neukölln Neukolln is, let’s say, hard to describe. It’s a remembrance of Cologne in the capital, but with a big twist. Something is always going in here: a lot of pubs and nightclubs and then people getting uninhibited as the moon goes up. A way of describing its atmosphere is: a balanced mix between cheap beer and serious drinking. Iconic: Bar Areas in Berlin edition On the other hand, if you have just one day in the city and want the postcard experience, go to Mitte. Mitte is very touristy, but for a reason. You’ll find a lot of design, history, cleanliness and all the icons you expect for the capital of Germany. Diverse Nightlife Districts Schöneberg is where people from the love parade should go. It’s a queer icon. City West is a living proof that Berlin has this high couture elegance. It’s between the Bahnhof Zoo, Savignyplatz, and Charlottenburg. Here you can find actual bars and refined kneipes. A more expensive and less underground side of Berlin but a must if you are into expensive experiences. Bar Areas in Berlin sunny side Let’s talk about the summer. Berlin, surprisingly, gets very hot during summer months. So the beach side rises. You can get to any shore on Neukölln or hit a beer garden or spend time on a terrace or rooftop. All of that is part of the offer of the summer experience. It’s something completely worth checking out. And one last thing The last thing not so many blogs talk about are the Spätis. These are shops that open 24/7 and where people take the party after the after party. They are just shops, but it’s where the party people get together to buy some snacks or eat something after the party and it has a great vibe. So check them out.

Underground Bars in Berlin Let’s talk about the underground side of Berlin, the bars edition. On the opposite side of the luxury and nice neighborhoods, there’s attitude. Berlin has a big (and natural) offer for underground partying. Basements, backyards, discreet doors, speakeasies, neon signs that turn in and out… The underground scene is scattered around in many neighborhoods, not just one hotspot, and it’s time to explore them! Different Neighborhoods, different Alles Kreuzberg, Friedrichshain, and Neukölln are in the same list but they don’ t have much more in common. They have very different identities and all of them host underground places with big differences. One is more alternative, the other is like open-air clubs, and Neukölln is raw, creative, and very “Berlinish”. This diversity of areas is what makes underground bars in Berlin so special and actually a real culture within the city. Underground Beyond Techno So first of all, let’s define underground. It is not another word for techno. You can find punk, indie, jazz, quirky music, German anthems. The best music systems, unexpected dance floors, as most sets, but everything with a lot of class. Alles Klasse. And that’s the reason why many people come to have an underground party in Berlin. It’s about variety and quality, not just one genre. Finding the Underground Bars in Berlin You should ask your friends or someone in the party if they know places because they are not that much talked about on the internet. And that’s what makes them underground. Try looking for a minimum sign in the facade if you want to search them indoors. How do you know if it’s that kind of party? Just you will feel it. You will see some chairs in the street, beers without a super special brand, the very dim light. in Kreuzberg and the people there just are enjoying their time, they are not on a tourist trip. Underground heritage In many of them you can find live music, a mixed space that works as bar, dance floor and a small concert hall. So that’s how you identify one. Some of the jewels are the heritage of the punk legacy… Names like SO36 or 8MM, they are still going on since decades ago, so that’s the constant spirit of the city, and the reason why you should check these places out. A few rules Diversity is something that defines this scene. It’s very open, weird, hybrid, everyone is invited. Something important is not trying to fit in, but litting your energy to the fullest (without messing with the others). Respect is not an option, it is mandatory, as in any German town. It’s a hardcore party with a lot of limits, with a very clear conscience and sense of safety, so that’s a great thing about Berlin. Drinking Culture of Underground Bars in Berlin And you can party here without alcohol. It’s also very German to leave everyone to their own decisions. So you can drink mocktails and alcohol-free beer, water, whatever you want. It is well seen. In Berlin, something weird is that you can still find places where you are allowed to smoke inside. That’s not the rule, but you still find them. Safety tips before hitting the bars And the last thing to say is that being underground doesn’t mean no consequences. You have to follow the rules and if you go to a bar hopping plan, don’t be that noisy on the street, don’t make it a circus. Always move minding your own business. That being said, Berlin is an amazing place to visit on that underground level.
